Bathing with a Shower? Better to Choose Hot or Cold Water

14 November 2019

Erratic weather sometimes makes the temperature irregular. Bathing activities that become daily routine must begin to be considered. When temperatures are cold, of course, we want to take a shower with hot water that can warm the body. Meanwhile, when the temperature is hot, cold water is preferred to wet the whole body from germs.

Bathing with cold water or hot water actually has different benefits. A comparison of the two things also has side effects that we must understand more clearly. Basically, bathing becomes part of every day to clean themselves. So, are you taking a shower with cold water or hot water?

Circulation of the body, when washed with cold water, feels stronger. Bathing with cold water makes the immune system increase because cold water has regenerative properties. The muscles of the body that work all day will feel relaxed. The skin feels more moisturized.

More than that, bathing in cold water can relieve symptoms of depression. When hair is wet with cold water, the mind will feel refreshed. The performance of the brain is able to produce beta-endorphins which make activities after bathing better.

It's just that if the temperature around us is cold enough, you should not take too long to bathe in cold water because the blood vessels can narrow. Bathing with cold water is also not recommended when the body condition is sick. For example, when the body has a fever the body temperature will feel hot. If we force ourselves to take a shower with cold water it is feared that the condition of the body will shiver and can worsen our health.

While for those of you who often stand under hot showers, sometimes bathing with hot water can be an option to reduce the symptoms of colds because steam can open airways. In addition, hot water is also able to open the pores of the skin so that it is easier to clean from trapped germs.

A hot shower will feel the benefits if done not too long. At a minimum, only 5-10 minutes. This is done to facilitate circulation in the arteries and blood vessels. Especially when bathing under a shower with stable water pressure.

A hot shower that can be done at night also helps you sleep more soundly. If we experience symptoms of insomnia or sleep disturbance, then a hot shower can be an option to make quality rest time. If the weather still feels cold in the morning after waking up, we can choose to take a morning shower with hot water because the effect is able to relax the muscles that are still tense and stiff (muscle relaxation).

It's just a hot shower has its own risks. The skin will become dry and easily irritated. The skin condition does not feel moist.

Hot water is also not recommended for shampooing. Splashing water on the hair can make your hair split. It's better to wash your hair with warm water, then rinse again with cold water.

The different efficacy of the explanation above can be adjusted back to the conditions that we experience each. Do not let the side effects that have been described actually make us lazy to take a shower. Though bathing has great benefits for health.
