The Key to Creating Clean and Healthy Bathrooms According to Architects

02 July 2023

The bathroom can be said to be the center of body cleansing at home. Hundreds to thousands of sweat, germs, and bacteria attached to the body gather at that place. For this reason, maintaining the cleanliness of the bathroom is important.

Bathroom cleanliness can protect us from exposure to diseases and viruses that come from dirty environments. With a clean bathroom, we can be more comfortable doing activities in it.

A clean bathroom will also provide a healthy environment at home. Even though the design is simple, a clean bathroom will look more attractive.

According to the architect of Atelier Riri, Riri Jacob, creating a clean and healthy bathroom is actually the same as other rooms, such as paying attention to good air circulation and sufficient lighting.

"Actually, if we talk about the bathroom being the same as other rooms, that means we have to pay attention to good circulation, sufficient lighting so that the natural design is correct to apply to our room which is healthier and of better quality," said Riri to Brilli at OKABE Galeri, Saturday (24/6).

So you can say, a healthy bathroom is a bathroom that has access to enough sunlight. This will make the bathroom dry quickly naturally, reduce humidity, and inhibit the growth of mold, bacteria and mildew.

Riri further explained, a healthy bathroom does not only talk about cleanliness, but also conveys the needs of its users.

"Besides that, I think for the bathroom we have to talk about the users too, the users are between parents and children, the needs are different, right? So, when talking about user needs, yes, we use certain products that can support their respective lifestyles," he explained.

To reduce humidity and bad odors in the bathroom, the sanitation system also needs attention. Starting from the selection of toilets, showers, sinks, water faucet filters, and floor drains.

Another important thing that needs to be done is routine cleaning and maintenance, such as brushing the bathroom floor and walls. Wipe fine dust that sticks to furniture, glass, and bathroom shelves if any. This will prevent dust allergies in the morning and remove soap or toothpaste stains from the ceramic surface. Repeat at least twice a week for maximum results.

Add a potted plant to help freshen up the bathroom. Choose those with wide leaves, are water resistant, don't fall off easily, and can absorb pollutants in the surrounding area.
