Tips and Tricks for Organizing a Minimalist Kitchen

10 July 2021

As one of the most essential rooms in a dwelling, the kitchen must be given more attention from cleanliness to the layout of the furniture. But not everyone can have a house with a spacious, luxurious, clean and comfortable kitchen. Sometimes we have to settle for a minimalist kitchen measuring only 2x1 meters.

The good news, having a minimalist kitchen is not an obstacle to making it look neat. Precisely its minimalist size allows us to arrange it as neatly as possible so it doesn't look full and unsightly. If you have a small kitchen at home, here are tips and tricks for arranging a minimalist kitchen that can be applied.

Group equipment according to type

The first tip to organize a minimalist kitchen so that it is neat and pleasing to the eye is to group the equipment according to its type. For example, cooking utensils such as spatulas, spoons, and spoons are placed in the same place. Likewise, eating utensils such as spoons, forks, knives or plates, bowls and glasses are placed in the same place.

Cutlery should be placed in a place adjacent to the serving of food or the dining table so that it is easier to reach when you want to eat.

Take advantage of the space under the sink

The bottom of the sink is usually only filled with a winding drain pipe. Instead of just taking up space, you can use the bottom of the dishwasher. This is in accordance with the principle of arranging a kitchen that is not too large by utilizing the available space as much as possible.

Create a functional storage cupboard or shelf under the sink. Although not large, you can use the rack to store pots, pans or frying pans as well as small items such as rags, sponges and dish soap.

Use lots of drawers

One of the tricks to organize a lot of equipment in a small kitchen is to use drawers. Drawers are storage places that don't take up much space. Usually, the drawers are with the kitchen table or kitchen set.

To make the kitchen more tidy, just maximize the available drawers. Store kitchen utensils in such a way in drawers. Arrange it as well as possible so that you can easily pick it up when cooking or picking up cutlery.

The advantage of using drawers as a place to store kitchen utensils rather than shelves is that they are neater and less visible. Compare that to a shelf where you put a lot of stuff in and even pile it up so it looks crowded.

Use the same type of container

Another way to make the kitchen neater and less cluttered is to use containers of the same type or model. The container in question is a kind of jar or bottle commonly used for kitchen spices such as salt, sugar, pepper, tea, coffee and so on.

The use of containers in the same shape is certainly highly recommended because you can arrange them easily, for example, stacked together, so they don't take up too much space.

Take advantage of the empty walls

If all the methods above have been tried but the kitchen still looks messy, just take advantage of the empty walls around the kitchen. You can attach nails to hang kitchen utensils such as knives, pans, and others. You can also make a hanging placemat to put a container of kitchen spices.

At first it will look a little messy, but if you can arrange it properly, the kitchen will look tidier. Don't hang things too much. Choose items that are often used so that the walls don't look too full.
