Have We Stored Toothbrushes Correctly?

17 April 2021

What activities do we often do in front of the sink? Apart from washing your face, cleaning your make-up and shaving your mustache, brushing your teeth are activities that are often done in front of the sink. Since childhood, we have always been taught to brush our teeth at least twice a day, when we wake up or after breakfast and before going to bed.

In order not to forget to brush your teeth, put your toothbrush in the bathroom or near the sink. But, we often keep our toothbrushes carelessly and unwittingly allow germs to multiply. Instead of being clean, the health of teeth, gums and mouth is threatened.

Have you stored your toothbrush properly? Has the way you stored your toothbrush been correct? If you're still confused, here are some common mistakes in storing toothbrushes and explaining how to store them properly.

1. Save in a horizontal position

Storing the toothbrush horizontally or on its back will keep the bristles damp for longer. The remaining water will pool at the base of the bristles so that it becomes a place for germs to nest.

The correct way is to put the toothbrush in a vertical position or stand up so that the water drains quickly. Also, make sure to place it in an area that has good air circulation so that the toothbrush dries quickly.

2. Too close to the toilet

Bathrooms with limited land sometimes force us to place the sink and toilet next to each other or too close. Keeping a toothbrush in the sink area close to the toilet will be very dangerous for health.

Microorganisms in the sitting and squat toilets can jump to a height of 1 meter when the flush button is pressed. Therefore, you should keep your toothbrush away from the toilet.

3. Cover the toothbrush head

There are many toothbrush products that use a head covering with the thought that germs won't stick. This way is wrong! The bristles cover will only keep the bristles moist after use.

It's best to keep the toothbrush in a dry, open area. The brush headcover is more appropriate when carrying a toothbrush for traveling or staying outside. Don't forget to make sure the bristles are dry before closing them.

4. Store in the cupboard

Putting all bathroom amenities, including toothbrushes, in the cabinet does make the bathroom and sink area look tidy. However, this method actually makes the toothbrush become a nest of germs because of the closed cupboard.

Currently, there is a special toothbrush storage rack, which is certainly cleaner and safer than keeping it in a cabinet. Choose the one that best fits the interior of the bathroom and sink so that the area remains neat, aesthetically pleasing and the toothbrush is well kept.

Now, do you know your mistakes in storing toothbrushes and how to store them correctly? Do the method above so that the health of the gums, mouth and teeth is more awake. Don't forget to replace your toothbrush every 3 months or when the bristles are irregular to maintain your health.
