HOW TO INSTALL A FLOOR DRAIN AT BATHROOM

25 June 2024

Have you ever noticed where the water goes when you shower? Yes, the water will go to the corner of the floor and enter the hole with the lid. The place where the water flows is called a floor drain.

Floor drain is installed above the water drainage hole. Generally, this small object is installed in areas that are prone to puddles of water, such as bathrooms, car garages, laundry places, and similar places.

Apart from draining water, a floor drain functions to filter dirt carried by water, such as hair and plastic waste so that it does not enter the drain hole and prevent puddles in the bathroom.

However, just like water taps, floor drains are bathroom equipment that is vulnerable to damage. Floor drain damage can be caused by several things. Starting from piles of hair falling out, breaking due to being hit by hard objects or rat bites, and rusting because the basic materials used are not of good quality. To find out how to properly care for a floor drain, see the explanation the following!

A damaged floor drain will cause various problems in the bathroom or area used, such as unpleasant odors, blocked drains, and standing water. Before the damage gets worse, immediately replace it with a new floor drain. Choose a floor drain that uses a magnetic technology system so that it can open and close the drain automatically. In short, the magnetic valve will open when water is flowing and close when there is no water flow.

How to replace a floor drain in a bathroom or similar area is not easy. However, there are several equipment that must be prepared, namely:

  • New floor drain
  • Gloves
  • Chisel and hammer
  • Sand and cement to taste
  • Bucket and spoon of cement mortar

So, how do you replace and install it?

  1. Use gloves to protect your hands from the equipment used
  2. Dismantle the old floor drain using a chisel and hammer. Make sure there is no loose material entering the drain hole to prevent blockages
  3. Install the thread pipe connection on the drain pipe
  4. Make enough cement from sand and place it evenly around the drainage hole area
  5. Place the floor drain in the hole, then press and spread it onto the cement. Don't forget to install a filter on the floor drain
  6. Apply cement to the edge of the floor drain and wait until it dries
  7. You can fill the floor drain cover with ceramic that matches the bathroom floor. Flip the floor drain cover, fill it with cement and bathroom ceramics
  8. Place the lid on the dry floor drain. Floor drain is ready to use

That's how to replace and install a damaged floor drain. For further explanation, see the video the following! Good luck trying!
