No need to be confused, this is the correct way to wash the bath mat

04 March 2021

One of the mandatory accessories in the bathroom is a doormat. Apart from preventing the risk of slipping, this floor mat is also useful for drying wet feet. Therefore, the existence of a mat which is a bathroom fixture is absolutely necessary.

Without realizing it, the high intensity of using a doormat makes it a nest for bacteria and germs. Being in a damp and wet environment promotes the proliferation of bacteria, which can create bad odors in the bathroom. Surely this makes us uncomfortable, right?

For maximum use, the mat must be washed regularly. If the bathroom is used frequently and the mat is often found in wet conditions, it is best to wash it once a week. It is different if it is rarely wet, then the mat can be washed only once in two to three weeks.

In general, there are two types of doormats based on the material, namely cloth mats and rubber mats. Different mat materials require different washing methods. It is important to know the techniques for washing these two-floor mats from different materials so that they are durable.

  1. Doormat cloth
  • Wash it by hand

Cloth mats are commonly used because they dry out your feet quickly. How to clean it can also be manual by hand. What's more, this method can also save water and electricity. Even though it consumes energy, this technique will make it easier for you to see if the mat is cleaner or to control the washing power.

How to clean it, provide a large bucket for washing the mat, then pour warm water and cleaning fluid. If there is a stubborn stain, pour the cleaner directly on the stain and let it sit for five minutes. Brush until the stain is gone and put it back in the bucket. Clean the mat by brushing it on all sides and drying it on a drying hanger.

  • Wash in the washing machine

Basically, washing cloth mats in the washing machine is almost the same as washing clothes in general. Before starting, check the label on the mat for special instructions such as never being tumble-dried.

Before washing, shake off the mat first and then put it in the washing machine. Press the right setting button. Make sure to use at least warm water so that it can kill bacteria and germs that nest on the mat. Dry according to the instructions on the label or you can simply dry it in the sun.

  1. Rubber mat
  • Wash it by hand

Rubber mats are more anti-slip and also lighter. However, how to wash it is not much different from a cloth mat if you use the manual method. Prepare a bucket for washing. Pour enough warm water along with laundry soap. Clean using a special brush or sponge until the rubber mat is free of dirt. After that, rinse with clean water and pat dry.

  • Wash in the washing machine

Washing cloth mats in the washing machine requires a little special treatment. Before starting the washing session, put a towel or cloth in the washing machine, then put the doormat. This method can help the water clean the dirt more optimally and so that there is no residual dirt stuck to the mat. Don't forget to use warm water when washing.

When you are finished washing, do not dry the rubber mat in the washing machine as this can blister it and cause it to not look the same as it was before. Just dry it outside and the mat will keep its perfect shape.
