TIPS SO THAT THE KITCHEN SINK DOES NOT SMELL

11 July 2023

Kitchen sink is one of the dirtiest places in a house, apartment, or office. It is not only used for washing dishes, but cleaning food ingredients is also often done in this place. So, do not be surprised if the odor often appears there.

According to the GB Sanitaryware Supervisor (SPV), Sheila, an unpleasant odor coming from the kitchen sink is usually caused because the drain is not cleaned. In addition, sometimes there are also kitchen sinks who don't use baskets to collect dirt or leftover food so they get buried in the drain.

"Usually the sewers are not cleaned, sometimes they don't use waste cleaning baskets so that the dirt gets buried and the dirt (smell) rises," said Sheila.

Apart from smell, piles of dirt or food residue can also cause clogged and damaged drains because water cannot flow properly. So, the sewer kitchen sink needs to be cleaned periodically. If possible, it is best to clean the drain kitchen sink using a special vacuum cleaner.

Also use a filter in the drains to catch dirt before it flows down the drain. These filters also help prevent clogged drains and reduce sewage rotting in drain pipes. Don't let the dirt build up. Clean it every time you finish washing dishes, kitchen utensils, and cleaning groceries.

Sheila also suggested, use liquid soap and antiseptic liquid when cleaning the surface of the sink. Even though it's been cleaned regularly, it's not necessarily a kitchen sink free from germs. Moist conditions and continuous exposure to dirt can be a favorite place for bacteria and germs.

"Clean it with a cleaning fluid like soap which has a fragrance, spray antiseptic liquid too," added Sheila.

After that, make sure the kitchen sinks in a dry state. Wipe using a soft dry cloth up to the sides of the tub surface. If left in damp conditions, it can cause the growth of fungus and an unpleasant aroma.
