Toilet and Bathroom Transformation from Time to Time

23 August 2022

It is undeniable that latrines or toilets and bathrooms are one of the premier needs of humans today. In fact, you could say, it is almost impossible for a house in an urban area to not have a bathroom. With the density of population in urban areas, dirt or feces will provide a big problem. The unpleasant aroma and the risk of disease caused, of course, make people very dependent on the latrine.

Along with the times, the bathroom is not just a place to defecate. Features that make us comfortable in the bathroom are now easily available. The architects were competing to design the bathroom to be as attractive as possible. Not infrequently they apply the latest technology, thus making a bathroom that was originally ordinary to be luxurious.

Then how, the hell, the transformation of latrines and bathrooms from time to time? Brilli traces the transformation from various references. Here are the results:

  1. Toilet chair
Precisely about 4,500 years ago people from Mesopotamia had built chairs with holes in them. The chair is covered with a material, such as asphalt which is waterproof, so it is not easily weathered.
How to use it is simple. Just sit on a chair, then the stool goes into the hole. Under the seat will be provided a long clay pipe leading to the ground. At that time there were very few people who owned such latrines. Most of them still defecate by burying in the ground.

  2. Latrine with sprinklers
About 1,000 years later, Minoans on the Mediterranean island of Crete improved their latrine system. They added a watering system. The latrine is still a wooden chair with a sprinkler added. The sprinkler channel is a tunnel that drains water from the jugs from the upper house.

  3. The first modern latrine
This model of latrine was first developed around 1596 by Queen Elizabeth I's godson, Sir John Harington. Unlike the flushing latrine, this model toilet uses automatic flushing, so there is no need to scoop up water from drains or jugs.
In 1775, this flush latrine was patented by British inventor Alexander Cumming. Cumming then applied an S-shaped pipe innovation at the bottom of the latrine. The function of this pipe is to prevent gas from rising through the sewer hole.

  4. Composting latrine
This latrine was invented in 1859 by the pastor Henry Moule of Fordinton. Compost latrines convert human waste into compost by adding dry soil from the yard to the storage area. Then the place is inserted under the latrine chair. After defecating, the lever from the latrine will be pulled so that the soil will bury the dirt. And when the storage bin is full, the contents will be taken to the garden to be composted.

  5. Crapper latrine
This toilet technology is still used today. In fact, it is almost the same as the first modern latrine. But Thomas Crapper, a businessman and plumber from London who invented the latrine in the late 19th century managed to modify it to be more practical. Crapper just adds a mechanism in filling the tank. This technology is still used today.

  6. Smart closet electric
If this one toilet was released recently. Around 2018. The presence of the smart closet as the latest and latest bathroom 'gadget' is a big revolution in the sanitary world. Yes, that's because the smart closet can be operated without touch. Thus providing a sense of security and comfort for users. The smart toilet is also equipped with a seat cover temperature control feature for added comfort.
