UNDERSTANDING AND REQUIREMENTS FOR BUILDING MCK

Have you ever heard the term MCK? This term is generally used in the community and is one of the public facilities that are often found in open spaces.

MCK is a public facility that can be used by the community for bathing, washing and defecating in certain places. MCK is also available in settlements or areas that are considered to have a low level of economic capacity and the population is quite dense. In another sense, MCK is also referred to as a shared bathroom.

Quoted from the MCK Building Construction Instructions Pocket Book from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, MCK can be placed in residential locations with a density level of > 200 people/Ha. Construction of MCK needs to have a supply of clean water, a wastewater treatment system, and sanitation equipment to support bathroom activities.

It needs to be understood beforehand, healthy MCK is a reflection of a healthy and clean environment. So, the construction of MCK will influence people's mindset, reduce air pollution and ecosystem pollution.

  1. Need to pay attention to the customs or culture of the local community regarding layout, separation of male and female spaces, and users with disabilities.
  2. The MCK location is acceptable to prospective user communities and meets the technical requirements.
  3. There is a desire or motivation from the community to build MCK.
  4. There is a clean water supply system.
  5. The location of the area must be flood free.
  6. Operation and maintenance by community groups or local government technical service units.
  7. Water bodies are available to drain additional solid waste due to human activity (effluent).
  8. Equipped with a water system of clean water, waste water, as well as drainage and vents.

 

MCK Building Requirements Standard

  1. Optimum natural lighting is sought during the day so there is no need to turn on lights or lighting when using the MCK.
  2. The ventilation holes are designed to get air exchange from two directions and air circulation can occur properly.
  3. Bathroom walls must be waterproof so that splashes of water do not damage the building components.
  4. The maximum number of family MCK users is 6 people.
  5. Minimum number of users of communal MCK is 6 Family Cards (KK).
  6. The maximum distance between the location of public MCK and the houses served is 100 m.
  7. To prevent contamination from waste water to clean water wells, the distance of the well or infiltration area to clean water wells is a minimum of 10 m.
  8. In communal MCK, the layout of the building can be adapted to the service capacity and conditions of the local area. Bathrooms and toilets for men and women are separated.
  9. The bathroom is equipped with a bath or shower.
  10. The MCK building is equipped with a door measuring 0.6 - 0.8 m wide and a minimum height of 1.8 m.
  11. Family MCK has a minimum bathroom floor area requirement of 1.5 m x 1.5 m and is made non-slippery with a slope towards the drain hole of about 1 percent.
  12. The communal MCK has a floor area requirement for each room for men having a minimum area of ​​1.5 m x 1.2 m, while the women's room has an area of ​​2 m x 1.2 m and is made non-slippery with a slope towards the floor drain.
  13. Squat toilets or sitting toilets are made with the following conditions:
  1. The toilet is equipped with a sealing water container with a size of 50 mm - 100 mm.
  2. Footrests should be made as squat toilet fittings.
  3. The minimum diameter of the feces inlet is 75 mm.
  4. The distance between the walls of the building to the toilet is at least 20 cm - 25 cm.
  5. The squat toilet seat is raised at least 10 cm from the floor with a 1 percent floor slope and is equipped with a floor drain.
  6. The toilet seat is equipped with a water storage facility that has a maximum flush capacity of 10 liters.
  7. The washing area has a minimum area of ​​1.2 m x 1.2 m, is made non-slippery and has a slope of about 1 percent towards the drain hole.
